This is what happened to Betty And Robert Fooks, a couple of Dorset, in England. The couple, during the works of renovation of their century-old home, they found an incredible treasure hidden under the kitchen floor.
While they were digging the concrete floor of their kitchen, to try to gain space in height, Robert (who is an agricultural engineer) came across some sort of shattered glazed ceramic bowl.
This bowl contained more than 1000 coins dating back 400 years about. This find occurred in 2019 and will finally be auctioned this year.
At the house of Robert And Betty, a Longhouse of the 17th century which is located in the small village of West Dorset, it urgently needed a major renovation. There woman, who worked for the UK Health Servicehe said:
“We removed all the floors and ceilings to leave the original stone walls. We decided to lower the ground floor to have more height.”
The priceless treasure found in the kitchen
The extraordinary treasure that they found following the renovation of their kitchen Betty And Robert, includes some gold coins, silver half-crowns, pennies dating from the reigns of James I and Charles I And shillingsplus a few examples from the time of Elizabeth I, Mary and Philip.

“One night I was with the children while my husband was digging with the pickaxe when he called to say he had found something. He put all the coins in a bucket. If we hadn’t lowered the ground, the coins would still be hidden there.”
The couple promptly informed the local authorities of the discovery and all the coins were taken to the British Museum for identification and cleaning.
This treasure, known today as the Poorton Treasurywill be put on sale at Duke auction house with an initial value of around €40,000, or £35,000.
With the next auction the coins they will offer a considerable profit to the couple and a piece of English history to all enthusiasts and collectors.
