George Clooney called the White House to complain about US President Joe Biden’s criticism of the International Criminal Court’s action on Israel, a case on which his wife Amal Clooney also worked. According to the Washington Post, the actor had a conversation with Steve Ricchetti, Joe Biden’s advisor, and expressed his concerns about the president’s words regarding the arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his defense minister Yoav Gallant. Clooney is worried about the idea of ICC sanctions because his wife could be hit. The actor will attend a fundraiser for Biden next week in Los Angeles. The concerns among Biden’s staff is that, faced with the actor’s doubts, the latter will withdraw from some electoral campaign events in which he is involved. Both the star and the White House preferred not to comment on the indiscretion to the newspaper.

How much Clooney is worth to Biden

The Hollywood star donated more than $500,000 to Biden’s campaign in 2020 and hosted a virtual fundraiser for him that raised a whopping $7 million. Karim Khan, chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, announced on May 20 that he intended to charge Netanyahu, Gallant, Hamas leader Yehiya Sinwar and two other senior Hamas leaders with war crimes and crimes against humanity. After the announcement, Amal Clooney, an international human rights lawyer, said in a statement that the prosecutor’s office had enlisted her to help with the investigation. The statement, published by the Clooney Foundation for Justice, a human rights organization she founded with her husband, said the team’s legal conclusions were “unanimous.” “I do not accept that any conflict is outside the reach of the law, nor that any perpetrator is above the law,” Amal Clooney said in a statement at the time. “I therefore support the historic step that the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has taken to bring justice to the victims of atrocities in Israel and Palestine.” But this very communication move did not go down well, neither with the White House number, nor with various Democratic and Republican leaders.
