The tension between Israel And Lebanon continues to rise, after the threats of invasion uttered yesterday by Tel Aviv to face the Shiite militias of Hezbollah. And this can also be felt kilometers away, in the capital Beirutwhere a man of Syrian nationality opened fire near the entrance to theAmerican embassy around 8.30 in the morning. “Thanks to the quick reaction of the The Fof theIsf and the embassy security team, our facility and our team are safe – they then wrote on X from the diplomatic building – The investigations are ongoing and we are in close contact with the host country’s law enforcement agencies” .

An isolated ambush, that of Beirut, which however testifies to the tense situation within the country. A climate fueled in the morning also by the statements of the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahuwho said he was ready “to a very strong action in the north. One way or another we will restore security to the north of the country.” This last ambush ended, however, with the wounding of two people, including the attacker who was arrested and transported to hospital by the security forces who intervened promptly.

To date, Israel’s actions in Lebanon have been limited to rocket launches and the use of air defense systems against warheads fired by Hezbollah, but according to a report by Human Rights Watch there Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have “widespread” used al white phosphorus in its attacks across the border. Incendiary weapons usable only for illumination purposes or against military targets, but never in areas where there is a risk of hitting people or civilian structures. HRW has denounced that these attacks are putting “civilians in a situation of serious risk” and are worsening the further displacement of the local population in at least 17 municipalities in southern Lebanon since October 2023. “Israel’s use of air-burst white phosphorus munitions in populated areas indiscriminately harms civilians and has led many to flee their homes – he said Ramzi KaissLebanese HRW researcher – Israeli forces should immediately stop using white phosphorus ammunition in populated areas, especially when less harmful alternatives are available.”
