“Keep criminals’ victims out” – Il Tempo

Approximately 48 hours after the definitive green light from the Council of the European Union, the body in which the representatives of the governments of the 27 member countries sit, to the new Pact on Migration and Asylum, which is made up of ten legislative acts and which modifies partly the so-called “Dublin regulation”, i.e. the main European regulation that regulates the management of migrants and asylum seekers, Italy and 14 other EU countries have sent a letter to the European Commission, in which they suggest “examining the potential cooperation with third countries on repatriation hub mechanisms, where returnees could be transferred pending their definitive removal”. The path indicated by Giorgia Meloni is the right one. The facts speak. The Rwanda model for repatriations, however, is “failure” and “lame”. This was one of the hot topics thrown on the debate table at Tg4. The director of Il Tempo, Tommaso Cerno, began like this: “There is a profound difference”.

“The Rwanda model is to take many people away from England. What the Italian government has done instead is to remove the idea of political Europe, which is different from how it was planned and which has led Italian citizens to say ‘What is happening? What is the truth about all this?’, to a vision of continental Europe, of those countries that want to enter Europe and that today can help us understand who is arriving before they have already arrived”, he explained. So what are the objectives? “Getting to bring to Europe the people who can come and who have reason to come and who we know how to manage and instead keep out those who have no right to come or who are victims of criminal mechanisms that must be stopped”, said Cerno. Few hoped for the success of the Italian prime minister’s plan. “Obviously everyone said ‘Italy had the idea and it won’t work. And instead, we are seeing that after fifteen years of promises, something is slowly changing. The other European countries are starting to say ‘Why don’t we do like them and let’s create a greater Europe?”, added the director.
