Just a few more days to apply for participation in the DiscoverEU 2024 program, which will allow you to travel for free throughout Europe.

No doubt, traveling is an experience that enriches the human beingas it allows you to get to know not only new places, but also habits, customs, cultures and even unusual food and wine specialties.

And you don’t need to sail the oceans or take long international flights: even in the old and evocative Europe it is possible to come into contact with fragments of history and folklore that are decidedly noteworthy.

The price of train ticketsHowever, it can sometimes be a deterrent, especially for younger, often penniless travellers. The European Commission has therefore implemented a particular program that promises the release of 35 thousand travel ticketstickets that will allow as many lucky users to visit the length and breadth of the Old Continent.

Be careful, though: these are the last days to make requests: all the specifications in the next paragraph.

The new DiscoverEU 2024 programme

The DiscoverEU 2024 program will enable 35 thousand young travellers to visit Europe for free by train, but is only aimed at children born between July 1, 2005 and June 30, 2006. Established in 2018, DiscoverEU is currently part of the Erasmus+ program 2021-2027, and aims to implement young people’s language skills. DiscoverEU is aimed at residents of the European Union, but also third countries associated with the Erasmus programme, such as Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia and Turkey.

However, the issuing of rail passes is subject to passing an online test, which consists of 6 questions to be completed electronically on the European Youth Portal: 5 of them are multiple choice, and one is a tiebreaker. The European Commission will then evaluate the responses and will draw up a ranking, finally publishing the names of the contest winners. They will be able to use the travel ticket from 1 July 2024 to 30 September 2025 for a period not exceeding 30 daysand they will also be able to enjoy a European card dedicated to young people that offers a wide range of discounts on food, accommodation, local transport, sporting and cultural activities.

The DiscoverEU program deadline 2024

As anticipated, these are the last days to fill out applications for rail passes. The offer expires on April 30, 2024: if you want to try your luck, hurry up and log in to the dedicated portal and fill out the quiz.

The European Union Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture and Education Iliana Ivanova praised the initiative: “DiscoverUE is a fantastic opportunity for young people who want to explore Europe, discover places and meet new people“.
