FRANCAVILLA. Between nourishment activities and those for recharging the cliffs, Francavilla prepares the beach in view of the summer season. Since yesterday, operations have come into full swing, on the one hand to allow bathers to have the necessary space to set up the beach and, on the other, those aimed at stemming the force of the sea with the reinforcement of the cliffs and the closing of the passages.
Starting from nourishment, the works began in the southern area of the coast, with the distribution of a total quantity of sand of approximately 4,500 cubic metres, recovered this year right on the city coast. An estimated expense of around 150 thousand euros, financed by the Region, with which it is hoped to offer those structures suffering the most help to have a strip of sand available where they can plant palm trees and umbrellas.
In recent months the mayor Luisa Russo he had ensured that this sand would only go to those factories that actually need it and this seems to be the case, as he also confirms Luciano Pesce, representative of the category: «In recent days, but still now, you can see technicians passing along the shoreline to take measurements, so as to have a clear picture of the areas deserving of help», says the owner of the Blu Marine lido . «Now we are there, the beaches must be set up and nourishment is essential. We are confident in good weather, also because in the event of storms there would be a risk of nullifying the work done. Precisely for this reason, given that the forecasts are not the best, I suggested leveling only part of the sand collected from our free beaches, leaving the rest waiting.”
Unlike last year, this time the intervention will not require costs to be borne by the operators, thanks to regional funding. And again from the Region came the other million and 250 thousand euros for anti-erosion works. Three batches of interventions, managed by the vice mayor Williams Marinelli, one in the center, the other in the southern area and a third in the north which saw the departure after the preparatory activities. Yesterday the planned interventions began on the south and north of the coast, which refer to the pontoon arriving from the port of Ortona. Next week, however, those in the central area of the coastal stretch should also leave, coordinated by the pontoon arriving from Pescara. Everything should close within about ten days, to make way for the bathing season.
