A reflection at this point is essential: the issue of US aid reaffirms the new defeat of international diplomacy that is unable to stop the conflict. Only weapons, this is the sense, can calm boiling spirits.
Also of considerable importance is the simultaneous green light from the US Congress to all those measures on the confiscation of Russian assets in the West in favor of Ukraine. The intention is to destroy the last remaining bridges, forcing the oligarchs close to Putin to make a choice. In the last two weeks a couple of tycoons have seen Western precautionary measures against them almost cancelled. The attempt to create the conditions to see the birth of a faction against power in Russia is evident.
This week the US Secretary of State will be in China, where he will repeat – but with a very different tone thanks to the vote of Congress – not to help Russia in any way in its war effort in Ukraine. Blinken, whose visit will follow the official one of German Chancellor Scholz, will also have the thankless task of explaining to Beijing what the 8.12 billion allocated by Washington to “counter communist China” and to support US regional partners are: 1, 9 billion is intended to strengthen the US arsenal in Taiwan.
