Hundreds of children behind an oval ball, sport, friendship, sharing healthy values and… lots of food and beer. These are the ingredients of the 2024 edition of the “Xnations” tournament organized, as for some years now in Vimercate, by the “Pirati rugby” company.
Hundreds of baby rugby players from half of Europe
Dozens of teams and hundreds of young rugby players coming with their families from across Europe met today, Saturday 4 May, early in the morning, at the sports field in via Lodovica, in Oreno. Here, in front of a packed audience, the inaugural ceremony was held, complete with national anthems sung at the top of their lungs. The mayor of Vimercate was present Francesco Cereda and dozens of “Pirates” volunteers, led by the president Mauro Rossi.
Almost 50 teams
Three fields will be played on throughout the day: via Lodovica, via Degli Atleti (sports centre), and via Rota (Oreno oratory). There are 47 teams participating in the tournament distributed in 4 categories from under 8 – 10 – 12 to 14.
Seven nationalities
There are 7 nationalities present: Italy, Scotland, Georgia, Hungary, Switzerland, Croatia and the Czech Republic.
There are 14 Italian clubs present: Pirati Rugby, Mosquitos of Muggiò, Monza and Geas of Sesto San Giovanni. The Treviglio, the Romano of Lombardy, and the Buldogg from the province of Bergamo, San Marziano of Genoa, the Piacenza Rugby and the Vald’Arda rugby. Abbiategrasso, Alessandria, Formiche di Pesaro and Raptors della Valcavallina and Bergamo.
From Switzerland the Blacks of Lugano, from Scotland Melrose. From Croatia Novi Zagreb. From Georgia the Tigers. From the Czech Republic Club Havířov and Dragon Brno and Esztergomi Vitézek Rugby from Hungary.
