The man, a 61-year-old Iranian, also allegedly displayed some flags and announced that he wanted to avenge his brother’s death. The prefecture specified that the Iranian consulate made a “request for intervention” and special forces were sent to the scene. As a security measure, and by order of the police headquarters, metro line 6 had been interrupted and the area cordoned off.

He was forbidden to enter the consulate area

According to what BFM TV has learned, which cites an investigation source, the man was due to appear in court on Monday for an attempted fire at the same consulate dating back to last September. On that occasion, still without a criminal record, he explained his action by stating that he wanted to support the revolt movements in Iran. He had shouted “women, life, freedom” in front of the judge. He had been sentenced to 8 months in prison with probation and a ban on going to the arrondissement where the consulate is located.
