Patrick Dempsey is returning to TV after several successful roles on the big screen, and he will do so with the new series Dexter: Original Sin: what will be the plot behind this new title from Paramount+ and Showtime?
Set in Miami in 1991, Dexter: Original Sin is the prequel TV series to Dextercult TV series which made actor Michael C. Hall famous as the serial killer ‘with a moral’ Dexter Morgan: it is the third series of the franchise after the original Dexter and the sequel revival Dexter: New Blood, as well as of the first sequel based on the ‘origins’ of the protagonist.
The story follows Dexter (here played by Patrick Gibson) in his transition from student to serial killer: when his bloodthirsty impulses can no longer be ignored, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father Harry (played by Christian Slater), he adopts a code that helps him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without ending up in the crosshairs of law enforcement. A particular challenge for the young Dexter, who begins a forensics internship at the Miami Police Department. In the series, Patrick Dempsey will play Aaron Spencer, the captain of Miami Metro Homicide who has a decades-long relationship with Harry Morgan (Slater).
The previously announced cast also includes Molly Brown as Debra Morgan, along with James Martinez as Angel Batista, Christina Milian as Maria LaGuerta, Alex Shimizu as Vince Masuka and Reno Wilson as Bobby Watt.
The new series Dexter: Original Sin will be released in 2025, exclusively on Paramount+.
