In presenting the line-up of its next season, Sky focuses on “continuity”, with also some interesting news regarding the entertainment front. Proposals include great original series, exclusive international news, the most anticipated and awarded films, shows for the whole family and engaging documentaries. The goal is to bring all this into viewers’ homes, offering advanced technology that ensures the best possible viewing experience.
“We have always said that our offer is based on two very important pillars: variety and quality”, confirmed Antonella d’Errico (Executive Vice President Programming Sky Italia)on stage, “Sky is a real ecosystem; it is many things ranging from 8 entertainment channels, series and documentaries, 11 cinema channels, 3 free channels, enormous investments in sport. The ecosystem on which we operate, in Italy, It certainly demonstrates how much we believe in this industry and how much we invest”.
Historical programs and new languages
It looks like we’re going to have to deal with one great season when it comes to entertainment made on Sky, with programs, including historical ones, which aim to directly involve the general public. Among these, in September 2024 we will see the return of X Factor with a practically new cast which includes Achille Lauro, Jake La Furia, Manuel Agnelli and Paola Iezzi as judges and Giorgia as host. On site, the new faces of the program mentioned the chemistry they found almost immediately in working together, and the importance of music and their reading of the program in this sense. A big surprise linked to the final of the new edition of X Factor was also anticipated: this will take place in Piazza del Plebiscito in Naples. This is great news for the Sky programme, given that it is the first time in the history of the format that the grand final (that of Thursday 5 December) will be outdoors, in a free event open to the public, co-organised with the The municipality of Naples.
Among the confirmations of the new Sky season we also find Bruno Barbieri 4 Hotel (from September 2024), Alessandro Borghese – 4 Restaurants (from December 2024), which celebrates its 10th anniversary, and the new journey of Beijing Express. This is expected by 2025, and finds its host in Costantino della Gherardesca, flanked by the special correspondent Fru in a new stage whose details are still unknown. Also in December there is the return of one of the most followed programs by the home audience: Masterchef Italia, continuing with Nightmare Kitchens by Antonino Cannavacciuolo (in 2025).
TV8 also reconfirms its editorial line, built on quality entertainment for the whole family. Starting in the fall, Sky will present its big shows in free-to-air premieres, including X Factor, Beijing Express and MasterChef Italia. The sports schedule, however, is enriched with the return of engines, including Formula 1, MotoGP and Superbike, as well as rugby and football. This year, an absolute novelty is represented by the UEFA Champions League, which is added to the already present UEFA Europa League. Both tournaments will offer the best match between foreign clubs of the round. A pre-match study to get to the heart of the match, and in the post-Champions League match, the immediate comments and highlights of all the matches of the tournament.
The main original productions of the channel have also been confirmed, which return with new editions. Between these: 100% Italia, the game show hosted by Nicola Savino which explores habits and opinions of Italians, Celebrity Chefs with Alessandro Borghese, the early evening program in which two celebrities try their hand at the unprecedented role of chef, and GialappaShowthe fun show by Giorgio Gherarducci and Marco Santin of Gialappa’s Band, hosted by the charismatic Mago Forest.
The series on and by Sky
As regards the series, arriving on Sky and streaming on NOW, promises a season characterized by countless international novelties, highly anticipated Sky Original titles and some of the most iconic and well-known franchises in the world. The season opened with the second chapter of House of the Dragon (if you are curious about the new episodes we recommend our preview of House of the Dragon), available from 17 June exclusively on Sky Atlantic and streaming only on NOW at the same time as the United States, followed by some unmissable news among summer and the following months.
Among these we find The Penguin, the new eight-episode series with Colin Farrell that continues the epic crime saga started by director Matt Reeves with the worldwide success The Batman, They Killed Spider-Man – The Legendary Story of the 883available from October exclusively on Sky Serie and streaming only on NOW, a dramedy directed by Sydney Sibilia which tells the origins of the group in the title and the path that made two provincial boys immortal icons.
Also in the autumn period we will have the second part of the last season of Yellowstone. By the end of 2024 they will be there as well Dostoevskij, first series of the Fratelli D’Innocenzo available from 11 to 17 July at the cinema with Vision Distribution in two acts e The day of the jackalinspired by the historical thriller written by Frederick Forsyth and the 1973 film adaptation of the same name by Universal Pictures.
The 2025 of the Sky series gives voice to a handful of projects and returns that are certainly highly anticipated by the public and the sector as M. The son of the century, SKY Original series in 8 episodes from the novel of the same name by Antonio Scuratiwinner of the Strega Prize and international bestseller, The Art of Joyseries produced by Sky Studios and Viola Prestieri for HT Film based freely on the posthumous novel of the same name by Goliarda Sapienzapresented in the official selection of Cannes 77 100 years after the birth of the Sicilian writer.
In parallel there will also be important returns of HBO and Sky Exclusive titles with The White Lotus, The Last of Us and other original projects, Italian and otherwise: the second season of Block 181, Iris, Amadeusthe miniseries Lockerbiethe third season of Gangs of London and many other titles.
Sky has also announced two new and important original productions: Rosa Elettrica and Ligas. Electric Rose is an action thriller starring Maria Chiara Giannetta, based on the novel of the same name by Giampaolo Simi published by Sellerio Editore Palermo, which will begin filming shortly. Leagues is a legal drama with Luca Argentero, who will play a brilliant, controversial and fascinating Milanese criminal lawyer.
Sky cinema
Sky cinema, in the near future and present, has set itself the goal of providing its audience with some of the most important blockbusters of the last season: There’s Still Tomorrow, Barbie, Oppenheimer, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Fast X, up to the acclaimed Perfect Days (for further information, please refer to our review of Perfect Days) and many others. Obviously the ball is wide open and ready to surprise, with next season seeing an abundance of new first screenings, offering a complete range of films of all genres to satisfy all tastes. The titles will be available on demand on Sky and streaming on NOW. Furthermore, with Sky Cinema you will be able to access Paramount+ at no additional cost.
Among the titles of great international cinema the following have been confirmed: Dune – Part Two, Blue Beetle, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Wonka, Priscilla, Asteroid City, The Holdovers – Life Lessons, One Life, Past Lives and The Three Musketeers – Miladyaccompanied by the sagas that have made the history of contemporary cinema, such as those of Spider-Man, Harry Potter, Fast & Furious, Star Trek, Jack Ryan and the original trilogy of The Lord of the Rings. Sky has obviously also thought of a rich assortment of films aimed at entertaining the whole family which includes and will include: Kung Fu Panda 4, Trolls 3 – All together, Take flight.
Even in the context of Sky Original productions broadcast on Sky Cinema There will be a lot to see in the near future, with the arrival of: Petra – third season, Big Foot (a new crime drama which will see Salvatore Esposito play a police inspector, considered the spiritual heir of the legendary Inspector Rizzo, the character made famous by Bud Spencer in the film Piedone The Cop), the new season of The BarLume crimesthe animated film for the whole family 10 Lives And Gospel according to Mary.
Italian cinema, therefore, is another great protagonist of the new Sky seasonalso offering a choice of films directly from the most recent successful comedies with: It seems a lot like Paristhe new film by Leonardo Pieraccioni, Romeo and Juliet And Another Ferragosto. All this alongside more serious big screen work such as: Caracas, Finally dawn, Confidence, Race For Glory – Audi vs. Lance And The devil’s tailnew thriller starring Luca Argentero (coming soon).
Documentaries and productions on factual channels
Also with regards to culture and artistic dissemination, Sky has anticipated a considerable commitment in view of the upcoming next season. Among the Sky Original titles coming out in the coming months we find, for example, the documentary Mannerism (in autumn). The craziest art in the world And Men and Gods (in winter). The wonders of the Egyptian Museum (event film with the extraordinary participation of Jeremy Irons).
