On 11 and 13 June, in prime time, the new third season of ‘Sissi‘, a series that presents an intense and realistic portrait of the famous Elizabeth of Bavaria, played by Dominique Devenport. Instead, we find ourselves in the role of the male protagonist, Franz Jannik Schuemann. The story of this royal continues to fascinate the public, even in more contemporary stories that present her in a more modern light, as happens in this series. The actress who plays ‘Sissi’ in the Mediaset series of the same name was born in Lucerne, Switzerland, with Swiss roots on her mother’s side and American roots on her father’s side. Among her early works were participation in a Swiss TV film, ‘Nebelgrind‘, in 2012 and ‘Night train to Lisbon‘ alongside Jeremy Irons in 2013. From 2017 to 2021 he studied acting at the Otto Falckenberg School in Munich. For ‘Sissi’ she was nominated for the Best Actress award at the German Television Awards 2023. Dressing in the sumptuous clothes of Sissi Devenport she found herself taking an important step in her career, playing one of the most fascinating figures in history European.
Compared to the series, Dominique explained that what excites her most is bringing to the screen a version of the empress close to her essence: a woman with big dreams, intense passions and strong determination. At the beginning of the 2021-22 season she became a member of the ensemble of the historic Volkstheater Rostock theater in the German town of the same name. She plays the lead role in the historical spy thriller ‘Davos‘, which celebrates its world premiere at the 2023 Zurich Film Festival.
The actress is widely followed on social media, but little is known about her private life and we have no idea whether she is currently single or engaged. Moreover, recently on ‘Tv Sorrisi e Canzoni’ Devenport declared that she opened and uses the Instagram account only for work purposes. In the episodes of third season we get to the heart of famous historical events. The Republic is proclaimed in France, so much so that Napoleon III is forced to flee. Franz is afraid that the revolts could reach Vienna and decides that the young crown prince Rudolf begins military training, even if Sissi does not agree at all. During preparations for the World Exhibition of 1873, riots erupt among the workers of the Prater, who demand higher wages and hot meals. The project manager complains about the increase in material costs, and Franz, to quell the riots, promises the soldiers’ support by asking Grünne to infiltrate the workers to find out their plans.
Meanwhile, Sissi, determined to protect Rodolfo, tries to figure out how to escape. Leaving a letter to Franz, she promises to return only if she is allowed to personally take care of the education of her son. She entrusts little Gisela to Countess Esterházy and finds an ally in the French photographer Alma, who accompanies Sissi and Rodolfo on their journey. Meanwhile the workers, exasperated, rebel. Franz decides to infiltrate hundreds of plainclothes soldiers among the rioters to identify the leaders of the riot. As social tensions increase, new figures emerge: Albert, the leader of the workers’ movement, organizes attacks on military transports to take possession of weapons. The young waitress Walli and Gustav, of working-class origins, develop the idea of a risky theft during a court ball.
