LASTRA A SIGNA – It all happened on Saturday afternoon, around 6pm, on the Florence-Pisa-Livorno road, the scene of a bad accident involving at least two moving vehicles. Based on the information gathered, a car traveling towards the sea near the junction between Lastra a Signa and Florence Scandicci suddenly lost one of its tyres. At this point, the vehicle would have completely overturned, trapping the two travelers on board, a man and a woman, while the wheel would have splashed into the opposite lane, hitting the door of another vehicle in transit, fortunately without injuring anyone. Fate, however, would have it that at that very moment a police officer from the Florence Police Headquarters was in his car, heading towards Florence, who, free from duty, was returning to the Tuscan capital.

The officer, having seen the scene, did not hesitate to intervene: he immediately pulled his vehicle over to the right edge of the road, on which he was traveling in the company of his wife and 2-year-old daughter and, without thinking twice, headed towards the car from which smoke was coming out, rushing to the aid of the couple and making sure that the emergency services had been alerted. Quickly bypassing the guard-rail he reached the car upside down, noticing the two passengers inside, completely still and apparently unconscious. In a few moments the policeman managed, not without difficulty, to open the door of the vehicle, unhook the seat belt and extract the woman from the passenger compartment to safety. The worst consequences of the mishap, from which the driver was also saved, were averted by the providential intervention of Adrianothe “hero” policeman (pictured) who gave a happy ending to an accident that could have had much more tragic consequences.
