Tour de France: Vauquelin wins. Pogacar and Vingegaard fight

The victory was achieved on the second pass along the San Luca climb: on that occasion, the Frenchman managed to leave the company of the other attackers and managed to reach the finish line all alone. Meanwhile, behind him, the fight for the yellow jersey was fomented by the usual Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard. If on the eve of the Tour de France there were doubts about the condition of the Dane, winner of the last two editions, we can now say for all intents and purposes that the Visma – Lease a Bike rider has overcome all the problems related to his fall at the Tour of the Basque Country.

On the first pass over San Luca, Pogacar simulated an attack, but in reality he had simply moved forward to get a water bottle. On the second pass, however, he launched a real attack, to which Jonas Vingegaard responded promptly. The two continued together until the finish, when they were joined by the returning Remco Evenepoel and Richard Carapaz, who participated in the final sprint. At the end of the Bologna stage, Tadej Pogacar thus wears the yellow jersey as leader of the general classification: Remco Evenepoel, Jonas Vingegaard and Richard Carapaz, while Bardet is fifth at six seconds. Giulio Ciccone is the best of Italians, tenth at 21″. Tomorrow the Tour de France will experience its third and final stage entirely in Italian territory, the 230.8 km Piacenza-Turin.
