Summer football – Poggio Rusco beats Ostiglia and wins the Neighborhoods Tournament

Ostiglia Not even this time did the coveted Quartieri Tournament cup come home: Ostiglia’s dreams vanished from the first half, defeated at the “Mazza” by their eternal rivals from Poggio Rusco, in front of a stupendous crowd. The start, however, seems to be balanced, with the Podians taking the lead after 8′ with Piva, and the equalizer arriving before the quarter of an hour thanks to Cosenza, certainly one of the best of the Ostiglia team. Thomas Bacchiega, however (who will also be elected MVP of the tournament), re-establishes the advantage for him. Perdichizzi’s goal effectively closes the first half with a 3-1 which directs the progress of the match.
In the second half, there was a back-and-forth between Vanzanella and Cosenza again, but the long-awaited reaction from Ostiglia was not there. In the minutes of injury time, Piva scored the final five goals, putting the classic umbrella in the long drink. At the final whistle of the historic referee Fabio Landi (now one of the legends of this tournament), Poggio’s celebrations could explode, as he received the trophy in the stands from the hands of the new mayor of the City of Cornelio, Luciano Barberio. Bacchiega and his teammates, therefore, obtained their second success in the roll of honor of the event.
Individual trophies were also awarded: best player of the tournament was named Thomas Bacchiega (Poggio Rusco), who won the “King of Scotland” award complete with an ermine cape and crown and the top scorer’s palm. Best goalkeeper (“Flying Dutchman” award) Olgert Xhoxha (Poggio Rusco), while the best young player, Nicolò Callegarini from Ostiglia, earned the award offered every year by Voce di Mantova, partner of the Torneo dei Quartieri since the first edition.
