Mayor Mattia Ciocco indicates that there are no dangers for the population and communication routes. Terrain constantly monitored.

«Thanks to the analyzes of geologists and engineers, we can say that there are no dangers for the population and the communication routes»: the mayor of Mesocco Mattia Ciocco explains to RSI that the crack in the ground at the foot of the castle «is under control» .

We recall that it was formed due to the storm that hit Mesolcina on Friday a week ago.

Initially, the mayor continues, it was thought that the part of the hill that was at risk of falling off was made up of large quantities of material. Measurements, however, have shown that the affected area is largely composed of rock, which cannot move, and of “a deposit of material from the 1978 flood” and it is “perhaps this that has given way”.

The only problems, in the event of a landslide, could concern the construction site for the rehabilitation of the section of the A13 motorway, which collapsed after the flood.

In any case, the entire area is monitored with geological controls and sentries, Ciocco explains. Since the measurements have been more frequent, that is in the last few days, the ground “has not moved anymore”, he underlines. Heavy rainfall is expected during the night and it will be indicative “to see what will happen”.
