Marco Nosotti shares for the first time the personal drama that struck him: the death of his wife Silviaoccurred during the Italy-Spain match. The Sky journalist thanked Luciano Spalletti for the hug received before the match against Croatia.

His wife’s illness

In an interview with Corriere della Sera, Marco Nosotti recounts with pain and love the difficult days spent next to the wife Silviawho fought against a leiomyosarcoma, a rare soft tissue tumor.

The diagnosis came at the end of the European Championships won by Italy, marking the beginning of a long battle. “It all started at the end of the European Championships. I returned home and Silvia told me that her tests showed that she was suffering from leiomyosarcoma,” explains Nosotti.

“Silvia bravely faced chemotherapy and its consequences,” continues the Sky journalist, but in the last four months the situation has worsened, becoming “a battle against pain”. During that period Nosotti asked to work close to home to be close to his wife: “There were nights to be spent with her“.

The last moments together

After the Italy-Albania match, Silvia’s health worsened. Nosotti, who returned home to be with her, lived days of deep suffering but also of intimacy and sharing. “We shared the last passage, as we had done for every day of thirty years of our life,” he says.

Silvia died on the 20th June. “It was the evening of Italy Spainand we were preparing to see it together, pretending that everything was normal – explains the journalist – as the national anthems began Silvia passed away“.

Nosotti emotionally recounted his last moments with his wife: “Between one injection and another, her gaze became alive and present again. I swore to her that I would love her forever and she responded with a barely hinted kiss.”
