The elective Assembly of the Football Federation will be held on November 4, for the start of the new four-year cycle: this is what emerges from FIGC sources, after yesterday the federal president Gabriele Gravina had said he intended to call the assembly by the end of the year.
«The FIGC President Gabriele Gravina has called the Elective Federal Assembly for Monday 4 November 2024 (8.30 am for the first call, 11 am for the second call) at the Hilton Rome Airport Hotel in Fiumicino»the FIGC made official.
«On the agenda: the verification of powers; the election of the president of the Assembly; the election of the federal councilors of the components pursuant to article 26, paragraph 4 of the federal statute; the election of the federal president; the election of the president of the Board of Auditors”.
«The deadline is set for March 2025, the elections will take place on the first available date but they cannot be held before the Olympics close»Gravina explained yesterday. «That is the only office democratically appointed to choose governance and will be legitimized to make all the project choices. Should I reapply? For me it is premature to talk about it today, but I think it is right to have an open discussion to verify the possibility of whether it is a path that can be continued or should be interrupted”he added.
Should he decide to run again and be re-elected, it would be Gravina’s third term: on 22 October 2018 he was elected president with 97.2% of the votes in favour, succeeding the extraordinary commissioner Roberto Fabbricini who in turn took over from Carlo Tavecchio who resigned following Italy’s failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.
On 22 February 2021, he was then re-elected for a second term, obtaining 73.45% of the votes, obtaining the support in particular of the professional clubs, the Coaches Association and the Footballers Association, thus managing to overtake his deputy Cosimo Sibilia who, supported by the National Amateur League of which he was president, obtained 26.25% of the votes.
