“Yet another accident at work, yet another death, this time in my province. In Canicattì. A very young worker aged just 21 lost his life when he was hit by a forklift he was operating. In a province, mine, where young people leave to look for a better future, it is painful to see that those who try to stay have to die of work.”
Democratic Party MP Giovanna Iacono declared this in a note when commenting on the fatal accident at work that cost the life of a twenty-one-year-old worker. “While waiting for the competent authorities to clarify what happened – continues the political exponent -, we can only continue to ask that everything possible be done to avoid other tragedies like this. In the first quarter of 2024 alone, 191 deaths from workplace accidents have already been recorded. A bulletin of death, which unfortunately is destined to grow.”
“Many times we have asked the national government to pay attention to prevention, strengthening training and supervision activities – continues Iacono -. All institutions must feel involved in a common battle on the issues of health and safety at work. It is clear that it is necessary to understand what is wrong and what needs to be changed in the current legislation.”
“My commitment – concludes the deputy from Agrigento -, as a member of the parliamentary commission of inquiry into health and safety at work, goes in this direction. In February I filed a PdL which aims to modify the legislative decree of 9 April 2008, n. 81, with respect to the accreditation of the entities that provide remote training for workers and, therefore, with respect to the certainty of the provision and carrying out of the training. Today my closeness and my condolences go to the family and to the entire community of Canicattì”.
