“The golden hour”: Peter White’s dive into Italian songwriting

Peter White joins the list of artists who have enriched the music market of 2024: his new single, The golden hour is available from June 28th. In a period in which his colleagues are churning out summer hits, Pietro goes against the grain with this single with a slightly âgé tone.

Produced together with Mattia Castagna, Paolo Casali and Dario Riboli, the song has a bit of the bittersweet flavor of things gone by. With the mandolin in the background and the arrangement that is a bit reminiscent of a waltz, Peter White takes us back in time. It doesn’t take too much imagination to imagine a ’65 Cinquecento making its way through traffic, with the sunset of Rome on the horizon and The golden hour in the background.

The golden hour is mine alone and paints your skin, you dressed in nothing, cuts the darkness and goes away

The new single by Peter White it is exactly the concretization of this stanza. The golden hour it is the song that breaks through among the many (pseudo) hits in rotation, differing from it due to its retro style and the (complete) content of the lyrics. An oxymoronic move, that of Pietro, which has borne fruit for him: the gap between his new single and what the summer music market offers is extreme, which leads to appreciating The golden hour even more. It may have been a risky choice, in a period so saturated with new releases, but it is nothing more than the expression of Pietro’s artistic freedom.

Peter White’s pleasant old-fashioned style in The golden hour

Pietro is inspired by Italian songwriting and revisits it in a contemporary key, proving himself to be a continually evolving singer-songwriter and reconfirming himself as one of the most promising talents on the Italian indie scene. The base is finely designed, with attention to the smallest details: the calibrated alternation of the instruments gives fullness to the piece, without ever being excessive. Peter White he undoubtedly managed to make us take a dive into the past, while remaining firmly anchored to the present – and indeed, enriching it -.

Pietro proudly continues his independent journey, as he writes in his latest post on Instagram:

“After three albums, “L’ora d’oro” is another important chapter in my artistic independence: I don’t care if it goes against the grain with the music that’s going around now. I don’t care if this song doesn’t play the radio game of the summer. Those who know me know that I’ve never given too much importance to numbers and I certainly won’t start doing so now. I’m only interested in writing songs and putting into them what I experience. Thanks to those who waited for me, I love you.”

The summer of Peter White has just begun: there will be five dates of his summer tour around Italy, where he will meet his fans again. In the meantime, we will listen The golden hour in loop: a blast of fresh air in a (musical) period that is all too sultry…
