A fire broke out in the toilets of Monaco’s SNCF train station on Tuesday 25 June. Here’s what we know from the police investigation into the crash.

Shortly before 11.45am a fire broke out inside the Munich station, requiring the rapid intervention of the firefighters. The fire broke out in the men’s toilets under the shopping arcade. Three people were immediately evacuated by emergency services and reported ailments due to smoke inhalation. No serious injuries were reported.

For safety reasons, railway traffic was completely interrupted and the electricity was disconnected during the rescue operation. Thanks to an effective intervention, the train service resumed at 12.25pm, limiting the inconvenience for passengers.

A voluntary act by a minor

Investigations conducted by public safety authorities quickly determined that the fire was arson. The perpetrator, a young man under 13, of French nationality and not resident in Monaco, has been traced.

According to the Public Prosecutor, the boy, unknown to the police and without a criminal record, acted out of “immaturity” and was quickly “overwhelmed by the consequences of his action”. Due to his young age, he was called to respect the law.

The amount of damage caused by the fire has not yet been determined. Authorities are still assessing the material damage in the affected area.
