Palermo mourns Kevin Giordano, the twenty-year-old from the Sperone neighborhood who died today at the Civico hospital where he had been in a coma for 15 days following a terrible road accident. The dramatic impact occurred last June 13 on the provincial road 69 between Monreale and Palermo: Kevin had fallen with his Sh scooter, losing control of the vehicle near the San Ciro curve, violently crashing into the guardrail.
The young man’s condition immediately appeared desperate, so much so that he was hospitalized in a coma at the Civic hospital with a guarded prognosis. The Sperone community, the neighborhood where Kevin lived with his family, rallied around the boy’s parents, praying every day for a miracle together with the Maria Santissima delle Grazie parish of Roccella which had organized a prayer vigil.
Unfortunately, however, there was nothing that could be done and today the sad news: Kevin did not make it, he passed away amid the heartbreak of his loved ones and the entire neighborhood. On social media in these hours, messages of farewell and closeness to the family from his closest friends follow one another. “Kevin, I can’t believe it, we prayed until the end but the miracle did not arrive. Goodbye, great” writes one of them.
The dynamics of the accident are still being investigated to clarify the exact sequence of events and understand whether another car was involved in addition to the scooter driven by the boy. What is certain is that Palermo today mourns the tragic and premature death of Kevin, torn too soon from the affection of his loved ones at only 20 years old. A death that leaves the entire Sperone neighborhood stunned and dismayed, where everyone knew and appreciated the young man for his sunny and positive character. Today there is only silence and pain for a life cut short too soon.
