As in the Italian individual master indoor championships in Ancona, Elena Borghesi from Rimini proved that she is currently the strongest Italian middle distance runner in the over 40 category, winning both the 800 and 1500 meters in the equivalent outdoor event, which took place between Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 June in Rome.

European vice-champion in the 1500 meters in the Pescara race in September 2023 and able to set the Italian indoor record twice over this distance last January, Borghesi won the two competitions in Rome with different race tactics, imposing a pace in the 1500 meters that none of her opponents were able to match, and finishing in 4’58”70 ahead of Lisa Carraro from Vicenza, while in the 800 meters she made her classic imperious final rush count, starting 300 meters from the end and which saw her finish in 2’21”05, ahead of Marta Alò from Puglia, who finished in 2’21”84.
