In the city council meeting held yesterday afternoon in the Marcianise council chamber, the city councilor Tommaso Valentino (Terra di Idee) formalized a question addressed to the mayor of Marcianise Anthony Trumpet and to the competent councilors regarding the state of the art with respect to the promised restoration work on the canvas Domenico Mondo fell a year ago in the church of the Annunziata. “Given that – he explained Valentine – next July 26th exactly one year will have passed since the fall of “Saint Jerome”, the canvas of Domenico Mondo inside the church of the Annunziata in Marcianise, which detached itself from the wall above the access door to the sacristy. The work, created in 1788, is part of a series of four canvases, which portray the doctors of the Church: Saint Gregory the Great; Saint Jerome; Saint Augustine; Sant’Ambrogio, lost. All these paintings are housed between the windows of the cruise, the usual location for the iconographic theme of the learned (prophets, evangelists, etc.). It is, therefore, an important work that has suffered damage that we are not aware of at the moment; in the aftermath of the fall, the mayor stated that a restorer would be appointed who would draw up CITO: “a report after having carried out an overall investigation to define the conditions in which the Church and the works contained in it are found, describing the interventions necessary for their recovery and to guarantee their correct future state of conservation, indicating costs and implementation times”; that at the moment we understand that the painting is still placed on the ground, inside the sacristy, and that no intervention has yet been planned; that we have no idea of the state of the other canvases, especially those of Solimena he was born in De Majo, whose state of degradation is visible even to the less expert eye; We ask the mayor and the entire council why the municipal administration has not been consequential with the commitments made publicly and in this assembly also following a question from me?”
The councilor responded to this question Stephen Emmer who explained that we are essentially waiting for the decisions of the Superintendency of Caserta. Valentino in his reply recalled that even the recent restoration of the fountain with dolphins in Piazza Carità has some shortcomings since there is no longer a jet from above. The mayor Trumpet he replied that the latter was a decision of the municipal administration because the strong pressure could create problems for the functioning of the fountain.
