There is a widespread concern among girls in doing common things such as walking down the street or taking public transport in the evening to the point of opting for more discreet clothing if they go out alone. This was revealed by an investigation by Eumetra carried out on behalf of Woman telephone Italy, presented at the Fondazione Cariplo conference center in Milan, which supported it. The research was carried out in January with over 800 interviews, among young and very young people (sample between 16-25 years old) and addressed various topics, from daily habits to the channels through which we obtain information to judgments on some realities, such as trap music which is clearly rejected: boys and girls, with different but always very high percentages, consider it ‘very’ or ‘quite disrespectful’ of women. Among other notable results, 42% of children “do not know what affective education is”, 66% of girls “implement precautions when returning home in the evening” (only 22% of boys), 62% “avoid taking public transport after a certain time” (17% for children), 61% choose ad hoc “discreet clothing”.
And as far as “gender equality” is concerned, if for girls it is still far away in the workplace (69%) it is better at home, in the education of children (55%) and in household management (52%). As Eumetra highlights, according to 4 out of 10 girls, social media negatively influences the image of women and more than half of them believe that they promote offensive behavior. “I think our research offers a somewhat alarming picture of young people and the issue of violence,” said Renato Mannheimer, of Eumetra. “The research data are at least comforting in that young people are aware of the problem of the forms of abuse and have also learned the countermeasures,” says Stefania Bartoccetti, founder of Telefono Donna.
