What inspired you to return to the Gold Cup?
Simone Scerra: There is a promise I made a few years ago to a person who was very important to me. I’m coming back to try to reach that goal, to fulfill that wish. I spent many years in this team, and vicissitudes not related to the playing field have led me to take other paths in recent years. But perhaps the time has come to return home, because for me the Coppa d’Oro is this: home.
What is your best memory related to the Gold Cup?
SS: I thought about it for a bit but I struggle to find the best memory when looking back on the seven years I lived with this shirt. We won a lot, rejoiced and suffered as a great team. We won a regional cup and two championships in A2, but it’s not the trophies that leave memories. The Gold Cup has given me values, perhaps this is the best thing a club can offer a footballer.
What do you expect from next season?
SS: I expect many good results from next season, given the squad that the club is preparing between girls and technical staff. I’m sure we’ll do well. I already know most of the girls, they are a guarantee. We will meet well-equipped teams, but we will always play, until the final whistle. We are proud to welcome Simona back to our team and are certain that her contribution will be fundamental to our future success. A big round of applause and a warm welcome back to Simona Scerra.
