“The government must implement urgent initiatives to address the very serious economic, social and environmental crisis that the Sicily Region is experiencing due to the persistent drought. The situation is truly alarming. The water deficit in some areas records a shortage of up to 60% of annual rainfall. We can imagine the difficulties that the area is going through, particularly in the agricultural and livestock sector. Tourism sector associations have also raised the red alert. But what is particularly serious is that the dialysis centers in the Region are in trouble and complain about the lack of water supply in many municipalities where rationing began months ago”.
Thus Senator Antonio Nicita, the first signatory of an urgent question to the Minister of Agriculture, the Minister for Civil Protection and Maritime Policies and the Minister of the Interior, signed by the entire Pd group at Palazzo Madama.
“I want to remember – underlines Nicita- that the government rejected an amendment to the cohesion law signed by me which envisaged allocating 800 million for the urgent fight against the drought emergency in Sicily and Sardinia. We can no longer waste time, which is why we ask the competent Ministers to recognize the need for urgent interventions to address and resolve the problems that are putting Sicily to the limit.”
