Jeremy Renner began rehab at home before returning to the Pittsburgh set to film Mayor of Kingstown, but admitted he was barely prepared for the first day of shooting in a cemetery at near-polar temperatures:

“I was pretty frail when we started on January 8. We were walking on the ice and I was out of energy. I was falling asleep. But I think it’s going to be the best season because of that. Don’t get me wrong, Mike is still Mike – he’s still the guy you want as friend. But it’s more exciting, because I’m more emotional.”

Naturally, the accident has changed the actor’s perspective on work and the roles he wants to play in the future. Renner honestly admits:

“The last thing I wanted to do was go back to a fictional series, I almost stopped shooting this show. Dialogue, character, stories, it’s all fake. I have to live the real reality with what happened to me, I don’t have time to pretend!”

The actor was then convinced to take up the role by changing his perspective: “I said to myself, ‘I’m going to go to Pittsburgh to get my body back and get better every damn day, and I’m going to do this show as sincerely as I can.’
