More flooding: “Garage under water”

After via Bisenzio, it was also the turn of via Fratelli Cervi to end up under water again. The rain that fell during the night between Monday and Tuesday caused the flooding of some garages in the area adjacent to the Stregale torrent, which overflowed during the flood of November 2nd causing a disaster.

The floods in via Bisenzio in Oste and those in via Fratelli Cervi are a wake-up call that should not be underestimated for the opposition in Montemurlo who immediately raised the problem. The rain that fell between Sunday and Monday, we remember, sent some areas of Montemurlo under water again. The citizens of Via Bisenzio, yesterday in La Nazione, complained about the fact that the manholes near numbers 69 to 75 do not receive rainwater and as a result it has accumulated in the street, causing many inconveniences but also concern.

“One day of summer rain and we are flooded again: it is a terrible alarm bell – says Lorenzo Marchi, centre-right municipal councilor in Montemurlo in a note – and I wonder what could happen this winter when the rains increase in number and of intensity. I have made the fight against hydrogeological risk, through infrastructure and maintenance, a priority theme in the election campaign, a problem that I believe should be followed and treated not on an ad hoc basis but even with an ad hoc department these months after the flood of November 2. The answer is in what we saw yesterday Little or nothing. the necessary interventions in our territory which has already suffered a lot and is recovering thanks to hard work and willpower”.

This “block” to the sewerage network should not have occurred because at the end of May the administration inaugurated the new Parugiano lifting plant, built by Publiacqua. This system is part of the set of works envisaged by the sewerage Masterplan which has as its primary objective the reduction of the entry of water, such as rainwater and surface water, into the public sewer system. The lower contribution of so-called “parasitic” water into the sewer system should also result in the reduction of hydraulic risk in certain critical urban areas of the Oste district.

Lorenzo Marchi wants to get to the bottom of the issue: “In the meantime – he concludes – through the Honorable Erica Mazzetti, I have renewed the request to intervene with the necessary funds for the prevention of hydrogeological risk. Our territory has changed profoundly, the strategy of prevention must evolve radically.”
