Maybe with Spain we gave this sense of fragility that a great team like ours shouldn’t have. We definitely have to grow, even if in these short tournaments there is little time to do so. Certainly in terms of play we can do better, but in terms of attitude however nothing can be said, it’s a point from which we need to start again.”

On Spalletti’s choices: «The coach tried to change something, we knew that with their 4 defense they could suffer the width of the fifths. Initially I started out wide, then Fede came in who is certainly more of an attacking player and put their defense in difficulty and therefore gave a great help to the whole team. So this is definitely the right reading.”

On criticism: «I think I was also rightly criticized, however when someone has a bad night in a tournament like this, when the level is so high, it’s right to be criticized. Then I know very well that I am not the player who played against Spain, I carry on with great balance and continue to work. I always approach this passion that I have by working and always giving my best. The criticisms are there and I continue like this, in my career I have never been caught up in great moments of enthusiasm, but I have always celebrated in a sober way because I know that football can change quickly. As for tonight, I’m happy with the qualification and for the coach. I have a wonderful relationship with him, and I can also say that maybe if there was another coach I wouldn’t have played tonight, I say this honestly. But he put his trust in me and for a player to feel that trust is very important, and I will always give my best for him, for the staff and for all my teammates.”
