Croatia-Italy 1-1, Zaccagni saves the national team in the 98th minute and gives the Azzurri the round of 16

A goal from Zaccagni in the 98th minute gave Italy a 1-1 draw against Croatia and qualification for the round of 16, where the Azzurri face Switzerland on 29 June. The national team fans first rejoiced at the penalty saved by Donnarumma in the 54th minute and a minute later they fell into despair at Modric’s goal.

The match seems over, but in the eighth minute of injury time Zaccagni takes care of it. In the other Group B match, Spain beat Albania 1-0. Spain is first with nine points, Italy second with four, Croatia third with two and Albania last with one.

The first half

The first half of the game was balanced and with one chance on each side, scored respectively by Sucic and Bastoni.

In the fourth minute the Croatian midfielder controls from outside the area and unleashes a sudden missile into the top corner, Donnarumma dives and deflects it into the corner.

In the 23rd minute Sucic trips Pellegrini in midfield, the referee warns him.

In the 26th minute, following a corner for the Azzurri, Raspadori passes the ball to Barella who raises it for Bastoni’s head, Livaković saves the Croatian goal.

In the 35th minute Calafiori serves Pellegrini who enters the area, turns and kicks left-footed, Livaković saves to the ground. The teams go to the locker rooms at 0-0.

The second half

At the start of the second half Spalletti brought on Frattesi in place of Pellegrini. For Croatia Budimir comes in, Pašalić leaves.

At the 52nd handball by Frattesi in the area, the referee whistles a penalty. Modric beats him, a treacherous low shot, Donnarumma rejects.

In the 54th minute Budimir finishes in front of the goal, Donnarumma rejects, Modric is there and scores: 1-0 for Croatia.

In the 59th minute Modric intervenes on Frattesi and the referee warns him. A minute later Bastoni’s header from the air, the ball goes just over the crossbar.

In the 79th minute Modric comes out, Majer comes in.

In the 86th Chiesa’s low shot into the six-yard box for Scamacca, who however arrives late.

Zaccagni equalized in the 98th minute.
