Water has returned to Capri, but there are fears of damage to its image. The Prefect: “We need a plan B”

The mayor revoked the ordinance, issued yesterday. The water had already returned yesterday evening. The meeting in the Prefecture is on Tuesday.

The water emergency is over Capri which led to the disembarkation ban, issued yesterday by mayor Paolo Falco for hygienic-sanitary reasons. Already today the water and the tourists have returned, with hydrofoils and ferries disembarking visitors again. The mayor revoked the ordinance, issued yesterday. The water supply had already been restored yesterday, before 8pm, both in Capri and Anacapri, even if the disruptions continued in some areas. Over the course of today, we gradually returned to full capacity. Now, however, there is fear of the image damage suffered by the island from such a serious disservice.

The story was followed constantly by Prefect of Naples, Michele Di Bariwho convened the Rescue coordination center for water emergencies on the blue island.

“The fault – said the Government representative – had already been overcome yesterday. These air bubbles were created inside the duct which created a series of problems, but the problem was solved. When last night, around midnight, they informed us of this situation, we took it upon ourselves to coordinate the operations, also immediately arranging the use of two tankers for which we interrupted the journey given that the service was restored”.

There is no water on Capri. The arrival of tourists on the island is prohibited: only those who have already booked the hotel disembark

The Prefect: “We need a plan B”

For the Prefect Michele Di Bari,

“A plan B must absolutely be prepared because it is not possible for Capri, Anacapri or the municipalities of the Sorrento peninsula to remain without water. I also reported this to Gori and the mayors, whoever is responsible for the water service must take charge of a plan B especially for the islands. I have already called a meeting for Tuesday because I want to integrate the Civil Protection plan with these new measures which obviously Gori will establish and will be reported to us”.

Among the hypotheses aired by the prefect, that of “an ad hoc tanker and tankers on site. As of this morning we had arranged 6 tankers in total, and I thank all those involved for what they did, because there was also another problem that we immediately overcome and which concerned the hospital, the water service to the hospital. In the end there was no problem there because a tanker put water into the tank, but all this must be seen in the context of rationalization and planning of services”.
