On the day in which Latina stops and takes to the streets to demand justice for Satnam Singh, another detail emerges: Renzo Lovato, Antonello’s father, who last Monday 17 June abandoned the 31-year-old laborer of Indian origins injured in an accident on the work and without an arm in front of his home, he has been under investigation for five years for gangmaster crimes.
It is the same man who spoke on the news the day after the death of Satnam Singh, which occurred at the San Camillo hospital in Rome two days after that terrible accident! had brought about a “lightness” committed by the laborer, “lightness that cost everyone dearly”. From what has emerged, Renzo Lovato is suspected by the Latina prosecutor’s office of having subjected “the workers, at least six, to exploitative conditions and taking advantage of their state of need” by paying them a lower salary than that established by the national contract. Furthermore, he would have violated “laws on working hours, safety and hygiene in the workplace” and would have subjected workers “to degrading working conditions and housing situations”.
The disputed facts refer to a period of time ranging from November 2019 to May 2020. Along with Lovato, two other people responsible for an agricultural cooperative are under investigation.
