Tuesday 25 June, 7.30 pm c/o Spazio d’Autore / books and vinyls in Piazza Edibles in Mesagne, the organizations Medicina Democratica, Mesagne Bene Comune and Spazio d’Autore present THE POLICIES OF EXCLUSION – Reception centres, ghettos agricultural and Roma fields in Italy, by and with Antonio Ciniero. In a dialogue with Gino Stasi, sociologist and activist, Antonio Ciniero will address the genesis of reception centers for migrants, how agricultural ghettos were born in Italy and what they have in common with Roma camps, how people live in these places, which effects they have on the life trajectories of the people who live there and, more generally, on the rest of society.

Antonio Ciniero tries to answer these questions starting from the research activities conducted over the last ten years, questioning migration policies and public interventions on reception: tools inspired by a perennial emergency logic that have contributed to determining physical and social spaces in which dynamics of exclusion and differential inclusion of an ever-increasing number of people have taken shape.

Antonio Ciniero teaches Sociology of Migration at the University of Salento. It deals with the construction of otherness within the processes of globalization and in the migration policies of European countries, with the social inclusion of immigrant citizens and refugees, with the socio-economic changes affecting the labor market and with social exclusion, with particular reference to Roma communities and agricultural workers. He has conducted studies and research on these topics.
