Laborer dead in Latina, rescuers: «Satnam Singh could have been helped». Employers: «He did what he wanted»

“Husband cut, husband cut!” Sony screamed in despair when she realized that the master would not bring her husband Satnam Singh in hospital, but he had dumped both of them in the house in Via Genova where they had been guests for about a year Noemi Grifo and Ilario Pepe, a couple who was helping them, giving them a roof over their heads while waiting for regularisation. Sony, 24, and Satnam Singh, 31, they wanted to save some money before having a childand for this reason they worked with their heads down in the Pontine countryside, often together as happened at the company Lovato from Borgo Bainsizza (Latina), where the laborer lost his life following a mutilation, the loss of an arm, caused by a machine. Eight kilometers separate the fields of the house in via Genova from Borgo Bainsizza; eight minutes took Lovato to leave the laborer lifeless and throw what was left of his arm right next to the trash. A lightness that cost everyone.” At the moment the Latina prosecutor’s office has not taken any new measures against the son Antonello Lovatoalready accused of negligent injury and negligence and for whom the accusation of manslaughter.

Noemi and Ilario: «Satnam splendid person»

The couple who first rescued the Indian are still in shock: «Satnam was a wonderful person, he helped us as much as he could, even if we didn’t speak Italian well we understood each other with gestures», remember Noemi and Ilario who have no doubts: “We don’t know if he could survive, but he certainly could have been helped.” Sony, on the other hand, is still in a state of confusion, perhaps she didn’t realize she had lost her husband, who died at San Camillo in Rome on Wednesday morning, while the solidarity machine for the young Indian girl was moving. The most active trade union representatives in the area will take care of it, and there will certainly be no shortage of support from the Italian couple who are still in disbelief at what happened.

«Summit at the Ministry of Labour»

On Satnam’s death, meanwhile, the ministers of Labor Marina Elvira Calderone and Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida have announced a meeting in the Council of Ministers for Friday 21 June, at the Ministry of Labour, which will see the participation of trade union and employer representatives and the competent public bodies.

The laborers: «We are afraid»

And in the prefecture the CISL brought together a group of laborers to show solidarity and underline the conditions of exploitation lived in the countryside of the province of Latina. «Everyone is more afraid today – says a young Indian from the garrison – we are afraid for ourselves and for our families.
