«I feel guilty, my life is destroyed»

MESTRE – A few hours after the fatal accident that claimed the life of Shakira Galli on Wednesday evening, who turned 20 the day before she died, the causes of the crash are not yet known nor are there any details on the date of the funeral of the young woman from Mestre. The body is still available to the judicial authority, which has not yet issued the authorization for her funeral; on Thursday afternoon the girl’s family rushed to the morgue to be recognized and immediately gathered around Leonardo Tibasco, 22 years old, Shakira’s husband and the driver of the Fiat Panda which, on Wednesday evening, had violently hit a truck, ending up completely destroyed on the passenger side, the one where the young woman was sitting.

THE STRACE

“I don’t know what I’ll do without her, I feel guilty, my life is destroyed”; these are the words with which the young man, who had married Shakira a few months ago, used to vent with his “second family”, that of his wife. The Galli family is well known between Mestre and Venice; his grandfather, Maurizio, runs a tattoo shop, Venetian Tattoo Artist, in Mestre and is responsible for the gondola station of Santa Maria del Giglio. The two sons, Seriano and Swan, Shakira’s father, are also gondoliers. Swan also manages the gym in via Ca’ Savorgnan in Mestre. Leonardo Tibasco had just passed the exam to become a gondolier and was working as an apprentice at the station managed by the Galli family. He and Shakira had just gotten married and were already planning to try for a child. The young woman, meanwhile, was studying law in Padua and dreamed of becoming a lawyer. She had celebrated her 20th birthday just the day before her death, on June 18: the family had gathered at the Caribe Bay in Jesolo to celebrate the birthday of Shakira and her younger sister, aged 17. An anniversary that will now forever be steeped in pain because, just 24 hours later, Shakira met her death on the A4, near Arino.

GRANDPA

«Today (yesterday for those reading) Leonardo came to the station – says grandfather Maurizio -. We welcomed him with open arms, he is like a son to us. We hugged him, our colleagues cuddled him. He needs us right now to overcome what happened.” Shakira and Leonardo met when they were still kids; they had been together for five years, when they were both attending school. Then the decision to get married and the plan for a family, shattered along with everything else. «They were together since they were still at school, we watched them grow. Leonardo feels guilty, he can’t explain what happened and he doesn’t know what he will do now – continues Maurizio Galli – but our family will be close to him, regardless of everything. Shakira would have liked him to live on, it’s the best way to honor her memory. The important thing for us now is that he continues to maintain relationships with Shakira’s younger brothers. All three are very young, they speak the same language, even about pain.”
