The shadows of MrX win the 2024 Compasso d’Oro

Even the shadow can express design. This is demonstrated by the latest edition of the Compasso d’oro Adi 2024 which awarded MrX, the innovative and elegant shading system designed by Marco Acerbis, architect from Bergamo, for Talenti, top high-end outdoor brand. An aesthetic and architectural solution that won over the ADI Permanent Design Observatory.

Established in 1945 from an idea by Giò Ponti, the ADI Golden Compass it is famous for being able to capture the deepest essence of a product, identifying both its uniqueness and potential. An action that aims to highlight the quality of Made in Italy and which finds a perfect example in MrX.

MrX is an innovative furnishing accessory, sophisticated and functional, capable of shading your outdoor space without taking up space and offering a real open air experience. Looking at the object when closed it is not easy to interpret its function, like an enigma it is gradually discovered thanks to its compass opening which allows the extension of the curtain for a large and pleasant shade. A few simple gestures can thus create a tailor-made oasis of relaxation.

MrX represents a turning point in the universe of shades they transform into dynamic design objects. Made of extruded aluminum and available in different color variations, the structure adapts perfectly to any context, offering a comfortable space where you can shelter on hot summer days.

These are the jury’s reasons: «A new type of architectural complement with variable conformation – portal, gazebo – for the comfort of outdoor living spaces, capable of becoming an ordering element of the space as well as an efficient functional response to the need for shade».

Acerbis tells the story of the genesis of its creation which he defined as «a two-dimensional portal» that transforms «into a three-dimensional space». «I smile when I think back to the process with which MrX was born. Ultimately it all started from a mistake on my part, in the sense that I was designing a tent that somehow had to have an worked much better in another direction. From there there was a succession of intuitions that led to what is the definitive object which then won the Compasso d’Oro.”

MrX’s shadows win the 2024 Golden Compass.

«Design represents a pillar of the Lombardy economy and identity – said the president of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana, speaking on Thursday 21 June at the awards ceremony – Design not only constitutes one of the most relevant economic sectors at a regional level but is also worth a third of the national added value (32.7%)». A sector that is based on a vast industrial ecosystem, with approximately 30% of active subjects at a national level providing work to almost 28% of Italian workers.

Regional councilor Barbara Mazzali awarded one of the prizes to the «Farfallina» chair created by the Lombard company Sozzi Arredamenti. A total of 67 awards were awarded by ADI, including 20 prizes, 39 honorable mentions, 5 youth plate certificates and another 3 for the youth category.
