TERNI – In Terni general inflation remained almost stable in the month of May and stood at 0.6% (it was 0.7 in April), slightly lower than the national one of 0.8. Compared to April, there was an average increase in prices (+0.4%). For Italy the figure is +0.2% (ISTAT data). However, the prices of products in the “food and non-alcoholic beverages” division are rising again, and doing so significantly (+1.7%). Such a high economic variation has not been recorded since February 2023. This surge pushes the inflation calculated for food products alone (on an annual basis) to +3.1, i.e. the inflation of the “Food products and non-alcoholic beverages” division ” is over 5 times higher than the general one (+0.6%). Since the shopping cart is a predominant element in family spending, this data certainly impacts families.

In particular, among food products, strong increases were noted in the price of fruit, especially seasonal, summer fruit. Compared to May last year, the prices of peaches, cherries and apricots increased by more than 30-40%. The price increases for vegetables are more limited (+2.6%): tomatoes, for example, cost less than last year but aubergines, salad and carrots are more expensive. As regards the other expenditure items, no particular price changes were noted, with fuel prices decreasing, slight increases in accommodation and catering services and in motorbike and motorbike insurance, all increases expected in conjunction with the start of the summer season.
