Electricity and gas bills: finally savings for families and just one receipt is enough

With the upcoming updates, consumers will finally have the tools they need to better control their spending.

Electricity and gas bills represent one of the main causes of economic difficulties for Italian families. The high costs and complexity of the invoices often make difficult to understand exactly what you are paying for, creating frustration and a sense of helplessness among consumers. This situation has pushed institutions to look for solutions to make bills more transparent and understandable, with the aim of facilitating the management of energy costs and helping families save.

In recent times, Arera (Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and the Environment) worked on a new version of bills, known as “bill 2.0”. This innovation aims to provide consumers with a clear and detailed view of their consumption and associated costs, allowing them to make more informed decisions and adopt more efficient consumption behaviors.

News and advantages of bill 2.0

The arrival of bill 2.0 will mark a significant step forward towards greater transparency in electricity and gas costs. One of the main innovations is theintroduction of a unified title page, which will ensure a standardized presentation of key information, regardless of the supplier. This uniformity will facilitate the comparison between the different offers on the free market, allowing consumers to choose with greater awareness.

A key element of the new bill is the “receipt”, a simplified summary of the amounts to be paid. The receipt will be divided into clear and distinct quotas, separating the costs of actual consumption from fixed expenses. This will allow consumers to immediately understand why they are paying a certain amount and what the main components of the total are. Furthermore, any social bonuses to which they are entitled will be highlighted, making the invoice even more transparent.

Another important aspect of the new bill is the division between the title page and a subsequent page, which presents the receipt and a box dedicated to the subscribed offer. The box will include important details such as the date the offer applies, any cancellation penalties and the expiration of the conditions. This level of detail will allow consumers to better evaluate their options and manage their energy contracts more effectively.

Arera established that the new rules will be implemented within a year from the entry into force of the resolution, which means that the updates should be effective by spring 2025.

Clearly dividing costs into distinct portions for actual consumption and fixed expenses will allow consumers to understand exactly what they are paying for. This can help you identify areas where you can reduce consumption and therefore save money. Furthermore, the new bill will clearly highlight any social bonuses to which consumers are entitledensuring they don’t miss out on the most interesting opportunities.
