Fatal accident in Sasso Marconi: Umbrian motorcyclist dies

Fatal accident in Sasso Marconi: motorcyclist from Castiglione del Lago dies

Valter Nappini, a 61-year-old motorcyclist originally from Castiglione del Lago, lost his life in a tragic road accident that occurred yesterday morning on the A1 motorway, near Sasso Marconi, towards Bologna. According to initial reconstructions, Nappini lost control of his motorbike, slipping on the asphalt and ending up under the wheels of a truck that was following him. Despite the immediate intervention of the emergency services, the injuries sustained by the motorcyclist proved to be too serious and Nappini died shortly after arriving at the emergency room of the Maggiore hospital in Bologna.

The accident occurred around 7.30 am and caused the closure of the stretch of motorway between Sasso Marconi and Sasso Marconi Nord for approximately 30 minutes, resulting in traffic queues up to 10 kilometers long. The traffic police intervened on the scene to try to reconstruct the dynamics of the accident.

It is hypothesized that Nappini’s body could be subjected to an autopsy to check whether he had an illness that could have caused him to lose control of the motorbike. Furthermore, as per practice, an investigation was opened to protect the driver of the truck involved.

His death threw the Castiglione community where Nappini was well known and respected into despair. Following the accident, there was a temporary closure of the stretch between Sasso Marconi and Sasso Marconi Nord towards Bologna, which reopened shortly after 8am.

Nappini was a passionate and well-known motorcyclist and as soon as the news was heard, the Victoryteam Italia and the Spyderman Club expressed their condolences to the family.

Messages of condolence arrived on social media from various associations of motorcycling and motoring enthusiasts. In addition to his passion for two and four wheels, Nappini was also a lover of music. He leaves behind his wife and two children.
