Great mourning in Laconi for the death of little Giovanni Maria Pira, who passed away at the age of just six months due to an illness that took him away, leaving behind his mother Antonella Argiolas, originally from the town, his father Pietro Pira and a sister .
The little boy’s family lives in Tuscany but often returned to the village of Montiferru, where his grandparents and uncles live.
The news of Giovanni Maria’s disappearance shocked the country. “About a month ago he was diagnosed with an illness,” commented the mayor of Laconi Salvatore Argiolas. “The community was deeply affected by this story and prayed to hope for the little boy’s recovery.”
“We have tried to express our closeness to the family over the last month, but today we can only express our deepest condolences for the little one’s passing,” continued the mayor. “For a month the Administration and the entire community hoped for a different epilogue, but unfortunately what we hoped for did not happen. We are all saddened by the passing of Giovanni Maria and we are close to his parents, grandparents and all his family members.”
The parish of Sant’Ambrogio and Sant’Ignazio also made the sad announcement of the little boy’s death, collecting numerous saddened comments from the entire community. “Heaven is celebrating because a new angel has arrived at the Father’s house. Little Giovanni Maria flew to heaven”, we read on the parish social page.
