“International adoptions: how to prepare children for the meeting with future parents?” is the title of the conference organized by the ASA ets association (Associazione Solidarietà Adozioni) on Friday 21 June at 9.30 am at the Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights (Via Giuseppe Logoteta 27), with the free patronage of the Municipality of Syracuse and of the Order of Psychologists of the Sicilian Region.

The event which will take place for the whole day (9.30/12.30-14.30/17.30) will see the participation of the vice president of the Commission for International Adoptions (CAI) Dr. Vincenzo Starita.

The aim of the conference is to talk about the meeting, abroad, of the child with the couple of future parents. This is a moment as delicate as it is important which, with the support of professional figures, is essential to begin, with the right time, to weave a bond that will then become a family one. The event is organized on the occasion of the twenty-five years of the ASA association, which according to the latest CAI report relating to 2023, is the second organization in Italy in terms of number of adoptions, i.e. 36. From its birth to today, the minors who have found the warmth and affection of a family are 1284.

After the institutional greetings of the Mayor of Syracuse, Francesco Italia, of the Councilor for Family, Social Policies and Work of the Sicilian Region, Nuccia Albano, of the president of the Order of Psychologists of the Sicilian Region, Gaetana D’Agostino, and of the president ASA, Maria Virgillito, the vice president of CAI, Starita, will lead a lectio magistralis which will focus on minors and their first and delicate meeting with future parents. Following the speech by Dr. Fulvio Giardina, psychologist and supervisor of the ASA and of Giuseppe Biagi and Alfia Raciti, honorary judges of the Catania Juvenile Court.

After a break, the work will continue with an international session and round table in which Vincenzo Bucello, member of the CAI representing the adoptive family associations, will take part; Seben-Hanuska Ágnes (contact person for the Central Authority of Hungary); Alexandra Staruchova (contact person for the Central Authority of the Republic of Slovakia) – Psychologist; Alice Trávníková (contact person for the Central Authority of the Czech Republic)-Psychologist; Simona Sarazani, head of the ASA Ets legal office; Patrizia Salentino, Asa Ets social worker; Loredana Chielli, ASA Ets psychologist; Francesca Aime, official of the adoption procedures office – Regional Service for International Adoptions of the Piedmont Region. The journalist Sara De Carli of Vita Magazine will moderate the meeting.

By participating in the conference, thanks to accreditation with the CROAS (Professional Order – Regional Council of Social Assistants), social workers will be entitled to credits.
