The thirty-fourth edition of the historical re-enactment of the War of Chioggia goes to the archives with the handover of the roll of honour. San Michele wins the Palio for the 6th time, thus dispelling the curse of even years where he never triumphed. 141 points for the district representing the hamlets of Brondolo, Sant’Anna and Ca’ Lino, ten points more than the “sailors” of San Martinowhile the holders of the flag, i.e. the district of San Giacomo, finishes in third place with 123 points.

Giovanni Perini was the best shooter: his the best shot of the match. All taken from Rai 3 cameras and above all followed by an excellent audience of enthusiasts in Campo del Duomo. As always, the Marciliana never betrays, 34 years of experience and above all of enthusiasm that is renewed every year have made this event one of the most important historical re-enactments in Italy. For three days Chioggia went back in time 850 years, to 1379 to be precise, when the city was attacked by the Genoese, attracted by its salt production, wresting it from Venice which then reconquered it after two years of Ligurian domination.

Palio which ended in the most spectacular way with the representation of the attack on the tower of Sant’Andrea, taken and set on fire, which left the large audience present in Corso del Popolo literally speechless. The 2024 edition, number 34, therefore goes into the archive ready to make way for the next edition, with San Michele holding onto the banner of the winners conquered with crossbow shots.
