The body was returned to the family

Franco Arras, the truck driver who died yesterday evening while carrying out maintenance on his truck, in a square of the family home in the agricultural village of Cirras, in Santa Giusta, started the business as a haulier 25 years ago.

Franco Arras’ son, Matteo, was added to the company started in 1999 in 2021 and the name changed, becoming Autotrasporti FMA di Franco Arras and Matteo Arras.

Arras, 60 years old, worked as a small owner: he carried out transport for third parties. He was originally from Lanusei but had lived for some time in the village of Cirras with his wife, three twin daughters and the son with whom he worked.

Franco Arras was checking some parts of the vehicle’s engine yesterday when suddenly the driver’s cab – which had been raised to make the operation possible – fell on him, crushing him. The wife raised the alarm together with her son. When help arrived, however, the man was already dead.

The personnel of the 118 service, the firefighters and the police operated on site. The investigations into the tragic accident were followed by the Flying Squad of the Oristano Police Headquarters.

The body was returned to the family. Franco Arras’ funeral should take place tomorrow.

The death of Franco Arras has caused great emotion in the lagoon city, where many remember him as a great worker, dedicated to his profession and his family.
