CATANIA – A concert by artists from Cataniawith a large audience participation, concluded the event late yesterday evening first day of the pedestrian area of Piazza Federico di Svevia and of area surrounding the Ursino Castle. The event, promoted by the Municipal Administration, marks a new phase for one of the areas most frequented by tourists, thanks to the manor built by Frederick II of Swabia in the 13th century, residence of the Sovereigns of Sicily of the Aragonese dynasty, including Frederick III, and current home of the Civic Museum of Catania.
With the hosted by comedian Gino Astorinathe group performed on stage The Lautari, Mario Venuti, Rita Botto, Eleonora Bordonaroand theorchestra of the “Angelo Musco” Institute directed by Daniele Zappalà. All these artists, together with Gino Astorina, have Mayor Trantino’s invitation for the evening event was welcomed.
The mayor, after a brief greeting from the stage, said thanked the public for their presence and underlined the importance of the decision to free Piazza Federico di Svevia from carsreceiving applause for the artists’ performance and for the initiative. Has announced that other musical and cultural events they will soon be held in the square of Castello Ursino to make the area increasingly lively and popular.
“We consider the summer period an experimental phase“, declared the mayor, “which will help us understand the most suitable solutions to respond to the needs raised during meetings with residents and traders. Until yesterday, wild parking reigned here, without any respect for pedestrians, be they citizens of Catania or tourists. The pedestrianization of Piazza Federico di Svevia must be seen as an added value for the city and, as happened in other similar situations, in the end there will always beprand a positive return. We are aware that this decision to regain livable spaces is an achievement for everyone“.
