The request for intervention by the prefect of Potenza and the occupation of the council chamber in the Region: these are the two initiatives announced by the centre-left opposition councilors at the regional council of Basilicata, Viviana Verri and Alessia Araneo (M5s), Piero Marrese, Roberto Cifarelli and Piero Lacorazza (Pd), Antonio Bochicchio (Avs-Psi-Bp), after the decision of the majority councilors to postpone the council meeting – scheduled for today – until next July 5th. “It is a democratic breach that we cannot tolerate – explained Araneo – even more so when reading the specious reasons given for the measure”. In the certified e-mail sent, signed by eleven majority councilors, “the adjournment of the session is requested to allow the political forces to complete the discussion phase begun in recent days, considering the administrative elections and the amount of national meetings for the ‘installation of the European Parliament’, reasons – he added – ‘which have no relevance with respect to regional needs’. “We want Lucanian citizens to be respected – added PD councilor Piero Marrese – and the postponement doesn’t even take the rules into account. We are ready to take strong actions to defend the right to democracy that Lucanians have”. “We can no longer wait for governor Bardi to find a solution to his majority and his council – concluded Verri – and this is a disrespectful gesture for the Lucanians who are still waiting for a government that will solve the problems that exist”.
