the scene captured by the cameras

A bartender found herself having to argue with a dissatisfied customer over the cost of a coffee and the situation quickly became heated. Beyond insults And threatsthe man removed the cap from the glass and drew the liquid (fortunately cold since it was iced coffee) in the girl’s face. She then took out a hammer and, before the customer was driving away, hit the windshield with force, leaving obvious damage.

The entire scene was filmed by security cameras and the bartender, Emma, published the video on social media and highlighted the main problem relating to this situation: the feeling of fear to which women working in the sector are frequently exposed due to disrespectful and violent men.

The story

Emma Lee, 23, was at work and it was around 3pm. One man ordered an iced coffee and a water, totaling $22. The customer, who according to what the barmaid told the local media was a regular and had already complained about the prices in the past, began to have problems with the bill being too high. «He said that he didn’t know and that he was cheated, but these arguments make no sense. There is the price written next to the product”, he says.

The man even got out of the vehicle and approached Emma, before throwing first the water and then the drink in the girl’s face. Finally, he threatens her: “No one will miss you.” When the customer got back into the car to leave, the bartender hit the windshield of the car with a hammer, leaving obvious damage. Subsequently, she called the police and reported the man.

In the video, published by Emma on her Instagram account, it is noted that the real problem is related to the safety of women, more specifically those who are «infinitely less protected. We work alone in this field, wearing little or nothing and interacting with men (most of whom we don’t know) all day. We usually meet kind, respectful and overall wonderful people! However, sometimes you meet someone who thinks it’s okay to be violent, both verbally and physically.”

A question is then asked in this regard: «At what point of the attack does the woman have the right to protect herself? What is the appropriate reaction? I knew this man. It wasn’t the first time he behaved aggressively, but it was the first time he was physically violent with me. He got what he paid for and was angry at the price. The fact that the first thing people want to know is what I did to deserve two drinks in the face is disgusting. We need to change the narrative. What made me deserve all this? It’s no longer time for women to smile and apologize. The only acceptable answer, for us, can no longer be the art of reducing tension. We have to fight.”
