Centre-left united in the ballot for the Potenza municipal elections, the agreement was reached yesterday

Not a formal alliance but a programmatic agreement united Vincenzo Telesca, Pierluigi Smaldone and Francesco Giuzio in view of the run-off to elect the next mayor of Potenza. Telesca, who obtained 32% of the vote in the first round, was, among the three candidates from the centre-left area, the one who achieved the best result, compared to Smaldone’s 17% and Giuzio’s 8%, becoming the rival by Francesco Fanelli of the centre-right coalition, first at 40%. The deadline for a formal agreement expired yesterday, i.e. the possibility of uniting different symbols in view of the vote on 23 and 24 June, but despite a general agreement that the three seemed to have found, the agreement fell through and then returned under the guise of a programmatic agreement in order to guarantee the city – it is written in a press release released by Telesca – the aggregation of a reformist and progressive camp in Basilicata.

In short, not a formal alignment, which would have resulted in, in the event of victory, a division of seats in the council between the three political forces and the consequent lack of a majority in the municipal assembly, but an agreement on issues. Added to this is the guarantee ensured by Telesca, not formalized in a document but stipulated “intuitu personae”, to recognize, for the common effort of the two allies, some departments in the composition of the future and possible council. Going into the merits of the agreement, the spirit that united the three mayoral candidates began with the sharing of a vision, then expressed in a plan. Hence the ten points of a program for the city which pass from an agreement for the adoption of suitable measures to combat land consumption, encouraging urban regeneration, a better connection between the University and the social fabric of the city, an extraordinary Commissioner for Bucaletto, the activation of the Teatro Stabile Foundation by November 2024, an extraordinary plan for the districts and suburbs, attention to the historic center which passes through the appointment of a dedicated councilor and even sport, with the establishment of a citadel, greater attention to the issue of the environment and an evaluation of a municipal company for the autonomous management of transport for Potenza and neighboring countries. All this while guaranteeing clear positions in contrast to differentiated autonomy.
