Two serious accidents in the historic first round of the WorldWCR in Misano: Mia Rusthen in a medically induced coma, Jessica Howden returns to the paddock after a concussion

It didn’t start off in the best way the WorldWCR adventure, the motorcycle category reserved for women. During the Misano Superbike weekend, dominated in the men’s by Toprak Razgatioglu, the first race in the history of this new category was held: however, the outcome was not as hopedgiven that, despite Maria Herrera’s victory on the last lap over Ana Carrasco, the race went around the world for a completely different reason.

In fact, during the fifth lap of the race, at Misano-2 (the sixteenth and last corner of the Misano World Circuit dedicated to Marco Simoncelli), in dynamics still to be clarified, the 21-year-old Norwegian Mia Rusthen suffered a head injury and concussion. The circuit’s emergency services were immediate: Rusthen suffered multiple traumas and was first helped on site and then transferred by air ambulance to the Maurizio Bufalini Hospital in Cesenawhere she was operated on during the night.

The family statement

“It is mine currently in an artificial coma. She underwent surgery to relieve pressure on her head and bleeding. The doctors showed themselves confident and satisfied with the outcome of the surgery: His vital signs and pressure in his brain are stable. We appreciate the thoughts and loving messages sent to Mia. This means everything to us right now, even though she is the toughest woman in the world!”

Accident also for Jessica Howden: she is better

It didn’t go so well either Jessica Howdenof Team Trasimeno: crash at the first corner in Race-2, she also suffered a concussion and the intervention of the commissioners was timely. Even the South African, who always remained in a state of consciousness, was transported to the Cesena hospital, from which, however, they arrive more reassuring news.

As reported by the official WorldSBK website, “Jessica Howden is back in the paddock: the South African had suffered a concussion following the fall that occurred on Saturday afternoon in Race 1. The pilot is in good spirits and is recovering from the injury.”
