In 2023, the observatory of the Association of Supporters and Friends of the Traffic Police recorded 193 significant accidents involving animals in Italy, an increase of 7.8% compared to the previous year. Of these, in 170 cases the accident was caused by a wild animal (88%). In serious accidents caused by animals on the loose, Liguria ranks seventh regionally in Italy, with a record of 14 accidents, meaning injured or deceased people. “Not to mention the damage to vehicles alone which is several thousand every year – underline Gianluca Boeri and Bruno Rivarossa, president of Coldiretti Liguria and confederal delegate. “With enormous reimbursement difficulties for motorists, due to slow bureaucracy and endless procedures.”
As regards African swine fever, as of 14 June 2024, the national bulletin tells us that the province of Genoa is the most affected in Italy by PSA, with 779 positive cases of wild boars since 1 January 2022. At this point, the Liguria Region has set itself annual hunting objectives: “Numbers of killings have never really been achieved, just think that during the 2022-2023 season the assigned quota required killing 30 thousand heads, of which only 13 thousand heads were killed. We are waiting for the official data for the current season. A target rate of 45%. How come?”.
